About the original Gibson 1957 Les Paul
In 1957, the Gibson Les Paul saw a pivotal change with the introduction of the “Patent Applied For” (PAF) humbucking pickups. These pickups were designed by Seth Lover to reduce hum and enhance tone. Before 1957, Les Paul models featured P-90 single-coil pickups, which were known for their distinctive tone but also produced more hum.
