Standel Model 520-S Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar – Vintage Rarity, Modified and Ready to Play
Here’s a rare chance to own a Standel Model 520-S – one of the most unique and forward-thinking electric guitars to come out of the late 1960s. Originally built in very limited numbers and featuring a sleek thinline semi-hollow body, this guitar represents a fascinating chapter in American guitar design.
This example is in good playing condition, with a number of modifications and functional updates that make it a great player rather than a museum piece. The original tuners, bridge, tailpiece, and pickups have all been replaced, but the guitar retains its distinctive body shape and mojo. The pickups currently in this guitar are possibly from an old Hofner instrument. The fretboard plays well, the neck is comfortable, and it’s ready for stage or studio use.
There are a few quirks worth noting:
- The master volume control has been removed and the hole has been cleanly plugged.
- The guitar may have originally been configured for left-handed use, as there are neatly filled holes on the upper bout where left-handed controls would typically reside.
If you’re looking for a vintage guitar with history, style, and a one-of-a-kind vibe – and you don’t mind some mods along the way – this Standel 520-S is a killer option. A true conversation piece with tone to match.
Includes: guitar and non original hard shell case.
Condition: Good (with visible signs of modification and use – see photos)
