The sE Electronics BL8 Cardioid boundary mic combines rugged construction with exceptional versatility. Its all-metal housing stands up to life on the road, while its 3-micron true-condenser omnidirectional capsule captures deep lows with outstanding detail. As a result, it excels on kick drums, floor toms, grand piano, room miking, and other full-range sources.

Built for Every Session

The BL8 Omni adapts quickly to almost any recording or live sound application. Choose between 80 Hz or 160 Hz low-cut filters to reduce rumble and unwanted low-end. Then engage the -10 dB or -20 dB pad when recording loud instruments. Finally, select either the Classic or Modern EQ voicing to shape your sound. Because of these onboard controls, you can dial in the right tone without reaching for additional processing.

The BL8 Omni uses transformerless Class-A circuitry for maximum headroom and ultra-low noise. Consequently, it captures clean, detailed audio with excellent clarity. Even loud sources stay clear and distortion-free.

Ready for the Road

sE built the BL8 Omni for demanding environments. The dent-resistant grille protects the capsule, while gold-plated XLR contacts ensure a reliable connection. In addition, the housing supports the Kelly Shu Flatz Isolation System, making it an excellent choice for touring rigs. A carry pouch also comes included for safe storage and transport.

Low-Cut Filter

Use the 80 Hz or 160 Hz low-cut filter to reduce stage rumble, foot noise, and other unwanted low frequencies. You can also leave the response flat when you want the microphone’s full low-end performance. Additionally, the filter helps reduce proximity effect on close-miked sources.

Attenuation Pad

The onboard pad gives you three output levels: 0 dB, -10 dB, and -20 dB. Start with the -10 dB setting when miking a kick drum. If the source gets even louder, switch to -20 dB. For moderate sound levels, leave the pad at 0 dB to maximize output.

Character Switch

Choose between Classic and Modern voicings to match your application. Both settings tighten the low mids and emphasize attack and punch. However, if you want the most natural response, leave the switch in the center position. That setting works especially well for piano, room miking, and many other instruments.

Swappable Capsule

Need a different pickup pattern? Simply replace the omnidirectional capsule with an optional half-cardioid capsule. Loosen the center screw, remove the capsule retainer, and install the new capsule in just a few steps.

Flexible Mounting

You can mount the BL8 Omni directly to a wall, ceiling, floor, or the underside of a grand piano lid. First, remove the microphone’s outer cover. Next, uncover the mounting points beneath the black stickers. Then install the microphone with screws (not included). This design gives you secure placement wherever the application demands.
