Bob Duley’s Gibson J-50 ADJ Acoustic Guitar 1966 – Natural w/ Case
1966 Gibson J-50 ADJ Acoustic Guitar – Natural w/ Original Case
Owned & Played by Bob Duley of Bob Duley and the Country Stars
Up for sale is a seriously vibey and road-worn 1966 Gibson J-50 ADJ with loads of character and authentic country music history. This guitar was owned and played by Bob Duley of “Bob Duley and the Country Stars,” and both the guitar and case proudly wear that history. Bob’s name has been painted directly onto the top of the guitar, while the original case features the band name painted on the exterior — a true piece of working musician history.
This J-50 has the dry, warm, broken-in tone you’d hope for from a mid-’60s Gibson slope-shoulder dreadnought. It plays great and sounds fantastic with that classic woody Gibson thump and strong midrange presence.
Condition is good for its age and very much “honest player grade.” The first 7 frets were replaced at some point, and the guitar still plays comfortably. There are fingerboard divots in the first 5 fret positions from decades of use. The original adjustable bridge and original tuners are both intact. The pickguard has shrunk slightly over time and is beginning to curl up along the edge, which is common on vintage Gibsons from this era.
Cosmetically, the guitar shows heavy vintage wear including extensive finish checking throughout and noticeable buckle rash on the back of the body. A custom endpin/strap button has been installed. Nut width measures approximately 1 9/16”, typical for many mid-’60s Gibson acoustics.
A killer player with undeniable vintage mojo and unique provenance. Perfect for collectors of vintage Gibson acoustics, country music memorabilia, or anyone wanting a seasoned old J-50 with stories to tell.
