Bach Stradivarius Trumpet – Mt. Vernon Era – Rare Factory 1st Valve Trigger – SN 20886 – New Orleans Provenance

This is a true vintage find: a Mt. Vernon Bach Stradivarius trumpet with the rare factory 1st‑valve trigger, serial number 20886, dating to the early 1960s. These Mt. Vernon horns are among the most sought‑after Bach instruments ever made, prized for their craftsmanship, hand‑fitting, and legendary sound.

This particular horn lived its life in the New Orleans jazz scene, played for decades by a working musician. It has all the hallmarks of a horn that was played, loved, and gigged hard — not stored away. The finish is worn and shows heavy player patina, but the horn remains fully functional.

Condition & Playability

• All valves and slides move freely
• Plays well as‑found
• No major dents or major repairs
• Finish is rough with significant age, wear, and patina (see photos)
• Sold as found, in playing condition
• Comes with the old mute that was with it for years

This is not a museum piece — it’s a real player’s horn with decades of New Orleans history baked into the brass.

Included

• Original Bach case
• Two Bach mouthpieces:
• • 7C
  • Rare 10½C (harder to find, highly desirable)
• Old mute from the original owner

Why Mt. Vernon Matters

Bach trumpets made in Mt. Vernon, NY (1953–1963) are considered the golden era of Bach production. Collectors and players value them for:

• Hand‑built craftsmanship
• Superior fit and finish
• Legendary tonal character
• Scarcity — especially in original configurations

A factory 1st‑valve trigger makes this horn even more desirable. Very few Mt. Vernon Strads were ordered with triggers, and examples with verified originality command a premium.

Value & Importance

Mt. Vernon Strads routinely sell in the $3,000–$6,000+ range depending on condition and model. A factory trigger adds significant rarity and value, and the New Orleans provenance gives it a story few horns can match.

This is a true vintage player’s horn with character, history, and a rare configuration — perfect for collectors, jazz players, or anyone who wants a Mt. Vernon with soul.
